"Operations Planning: A Focussed Approach"
By Dean Dalton
$25.00
|
|
Cut costs. Get more efficient - now!
Following the very successful Business Operations Planning seminar I held at the Wellington
Regional Chamber of Commerce last week, I have been swamped with requests from business
owners to publish the lecture notes. I have developed them into a booklet of instructions
on how to design effective Operations Flow Charts. Included, are generic examples of how
best to "answer the telephone", "make a sale" and "raise an
invoice".
For those of you who have not yet been to one of my
workshops or seminars, Operations Flow Charts, are an easy, practical way of documenting a
list of instructions on how to perform certain tasks efficiently within your business.
They enable you to eliminate recurring problems and they free up more of your time by making
it possible for the business to run without you, some of the time.

"The E Myth Revisited"
By Michael E Gerber
$35.00
|
|
This excellent 268 page paperback is about "why most
businesses fail and what to do about it". I found it easy to read, but a bit waffley in
places. However it does get across the message that you should spend time designing
Flow Charts for Operating Systems within your business.
This means that parts of your business will run smoothly without you having to be there.
Take a holiday or spend this extra free time exploring new ways to grow your business.

"Publish for a Profit"
By Cyndi Kaplan
$39.95
|
|
This 168 page paperback is about "how to market & promote your own book".
It's an easy read, sprinkled with some quaint, steriotypical Aussie cartoon illustrations
(charming)!
The content is good, practical stuff on how to go about writing
and publishing your very own book. Writing a book is a good way of generating extra income
without the need to be too involved once it is out there published.
Cyndi says that children's books and cook books are lucrative because of reprints to new
generations of buyers.
Give it a go!

"Buying & Selling a Business"
By Keith McIlroy

|
| This 143 page paperback is about "how to avoid the risks and reap
the rewards!" Keith McIlroy is an accountant who travels the world writing,
lecturing and consulting to many businesses. He has worked in New Zealand and Australia
and writes in a rather colloquial, colourful style. Business owners should have a plan
of action to sell their business at some stage. This book gives good practical advice
on what to look out for. Keith's a bit mean to lawyers and accountants so read it with an
open mind.

"New Zealand Small Business Guide" 3rd Edition
By Higham & Williams
$34.95
|
| This 265 page paperback is
for the beginner businessperson.
It shows "How to choose and
maintain a small business" and it provides guidelines on
finding a market niche. It doesn’t have diagrams or models to help you to
understand the more complex concepts in operating an existing business but is
full of useful advice. I found it enjoyable to read.
