How to Start a Business in New Zealand
Meet Shelley Crestani - Crestani Communications Limited
Shelley had a very successful career in advertising but always dreamed about being master of her own destiny.
She took the plunge and launched Crestani Communications in December 2009.
Shelley had developed strong client relationships within her business and, as with many start-ups, she had a clear view of where she wanted to be but wasn't sure how to get there.
With that in mind she completed a strategic and business plan with Dean.
Shelley said "Dean condensed a scary world of business-speak and spreadsheets into common sense. Along with a robust and easily workable business plan I came away with some key learnings.
1. Work with people you know and trust, or who come highly recommended. Dean's business contacts in the Business Experts Bureau provided a shortcut to sharp practitioners from IT to accountancy - businesses I had never had to deal with before.
2. Back yourself. I was looking to match my agency income but Dean showed me that by getting the business basics right I could double my take-home pay, and more.
3. Know exactly what type of work and what type of clients you need to attract in order to make money.
The DaltonPlan® course was a challenging reality check but at the same time exhilarating and motivating. I also had some good laughs along the way. I look forward to having Dean to bounce ideas off in the future, to keep the momentum going".
